A scripting language is a language that is interpreted. They tend to be easier to learn than compiled languages. They are usually used for small tasks which are part of a larger system and not to write larger programs because they tend to be slower than compiled languages.

Programming Languages as a rule are compiled and not interpreted. Large programs are written in these languages because they tend to be quicker and more efficient once compiled. They tend to be more difficult to learn than scripting languages.

A Mark-Up Language is used for the processing and presentation of content. It uses tags such as to provide handles so that the software can ensure that it is structured and formatted correctly. HTML is the most popular Mark-Up Language.
